Steve’s Real Food Lamu is a delicious freeze-dried raw dog food made with lamb and emu meat. Lamb is a novel protein that creates mealtime excitement for picky eaters, and it’s easily digestible for pets with sensitive stomachs. Emu, also considered a novel protein, is a lean red meat. The American Heart Association recognizes emu meat as a healthy alternative to beef, with a higher count of iron, protein, and vitamin C and lower in cholesterol, fat, and calories. Freeze-dried Lamu is complete and balanced for all stages of life and can be fed to dogs and cats.

Consider our lamb and emu Recipe for the following reasons:

  • Novel Protein Combination: Lamb and emu are novel protein sources, making this formula a suitable option for pets with food sensitivities to more common proteins like chicken or beef.
  • Complete Amino Acid Profile: Lamb and emu both contain all the essential amino acids necessary for various bodily functions and metabolic processes, making it a complete and well-balanced protein source.
  • Palatability: Many pets find the flavors of lamb and emu appealing, making this combination suitable for picky eaters.
  • Variety in Diet: Combining lamb and emu offers a variety of protein sources, which can help prevent dietary monotony and reduce the risk of food sensitivities that can develop with a single protein source.
  • Convenient Bite-sized Nuggets: Nuggets are shaped into tater-tot-sized pieces that are easy to scoop, and excellent at quickly rehydrating.

Feeding Guidelines

If you are transitioning to raw, we suggest transitioning over a 1-2 week period. Check out our transitioning guide here for more information and tips for switching over your pets.

  • Scoop: Use a measuring cup to scoop your pet’s portion for the meal, and place the food in a clean dish.
  • Rehydrate: Add ¾ cup of WARM water per every 1 cup of food. Stir to ensure even hydration. Let the liquid absorb into the food for 5-10 mins.
  • Serve: Once the freeze-dried food has re-hydrated and reached the desired texture (usually a porridge-like consistency), serve it to your pet in a clean food dish.
Each four-legged friend will metabolize food differently based on their activity level, breed, age, etc. Use our feeding calculator as a starting point for your pet, and adjust the feeding amount as necessary to help your pet achieve an ideal body weight.

Food Storage Instructions
Keep the bag sealed and away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid storing freeze-dried pet food in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations, such as garages or sheds. Freeze-dried food is sensitive to moisture. Ensure the storage area has low humidity levels to prevent the food from becoming soggy or molding. While freeze-dried dog food has a longer shelf life than other pet foods, it’s essential to use it within a reasonable timeframe. Follow the “best by” or “use by” date on the packaging as a guideline.

Safe Handling Raw Pet Food
Treat raw pet food with the same care as handling raw meat for your consumption. Always wash your hands, pet bowls, and any surfaces that come into contact with the raw food.
